I would like to thank James E. Ukrop for being a model of uprightness and kindness. When he unexpectely became my landlord, he gave me the benefit of the doubt in many ways that helped me develop 24 in 4. As best I can tell, he liked the fact that I had a record of trying to formulate new solutions to old problems. What comes naturally to him--doing good--requires me to stop, rationalize and pragmatize. At critical moments, the influence of his community involvement and controlled tolerance molded me into a better person.

The 24 in 4 reforms will create the means and opportunitities for many to have the time to emulate our most outstanding citizens in small and many ways. It will be the aggregate of the common citizen that determines the fate of the republic and humanity, not an occasional great deed by a figure on the public stage. Given decent policies from the politicians, the polity will be polite with a lesser need of police.
