Freak hail hits horticulture hard -

A freak hail storm has caused millions of dollars damage to horticulture crops in north-east Victoria. Cherry, chestnut, walnut and apple crops near Myrtleford were hit hard, but orchardists near Bunbartha, in the Goulburn Valley, had crops completely wiped out. Jamie Craig from Bunbartha Fruitpackers says the storm was unbelievable. “I've never seen a storm like it, it took the skylights out of the shed, there was six inches of water through the shed. It only lasted 12 minutes. We had 40 mm in the rain gauge but it was coming in parallel to the ground, so whether the rain gauge caught it all I don't know. “Next year will be another year, so its recovering from this that's going to be the issue.”
