Vic Farmers declare drought areas

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) has declared a quarter of the state is in drought, even though the State Government will not yet make a similar call.

The VFF says farmers in a region from the western border of the state's north-east are suffering some of the worst conditions they have ever endured.

However, the State Government says Victoria does not yet meet requirements for exceptional circumstances funding.

The VFF general manager of policy, Clay Manners, says the drought does not stop at the state border.

"What's concerned us is that the New South Wales Government has provided assistance to its farmers and it's very important that the Victorian Government looks to provide equivalent assistance to farmers in Victoria," he said.
