Stock Options are Like Legally Robbing A Bank

Stock certificates are a form of money. While you cannot use them to buy common items, stock options are common enough that there are thousands of places where you can trade them for everyday dollars. Ultimately, the defining value of any currency is whether average people will accept the paper as having a "current value."

  1. Imagine going into a bank and demanding a fifty dollar bill in exchange for giving a penny or a nickel. You would be considered a bank robber.

  2. Consider how corporate insiders go into a bank where they trade a stock option for which they paid a penny or a nickel in exchange for a fifty or hundred dollar bill.

Like the former, the latter is form of bank robbing only it is legal, obscured by the theories of economists who are hired guns to obscure the basic, simple bank robbing that is occurring with big words.
