Opinions versus Conclusions: for indexes

The biggest, most common human pining throughout history has been the fear of death and hope for another life. People pine for eternal life. Many modes of living forever have come and gone. In many by-gone cultures, people were buried with items to help them in the after-life. Some religions state it is useless to think of taking things with you as you will be re-incarnated. Consistently, the gods created in man's image have reflected the environment of their origin, e.g., mountain, sea, underworld, otherly-world gods. The fear of death prompts rituals that permeate one's whole existence. Some rituals are innocuous. Others are deadly as the faithful believe that they have a god-given duty to kll the non-believers. Or, a political movement has a hidden agenda of destroying secular services with the public funding being directed to the faithful, e.g., taxes funding private religious schools. With faith, facts carry no weight. Faith trumps facts.
